Matrimonial Liberty

It is disgusting to think of gay marriage as being illegal in this country. I think that the biggest driving force behind this is religion. In the case of christianity, there is a point in the bible where it lables homosexuality as a sin. This would make sense then for someone of the christian faith to be against any type of homosexual behavior. This being said, marraige is not legally reconized by the state unless there is other legal documentation signed by both parties. In this sense, there really is no grounds for any type of religious group to have a say in polotical matters except as indivisuals. And through this type of reasoning, it should be clear that the government would not force any religious group to marry a gay couple. My second point is that, at this point in our nation's history it would make sense to not hate the idea of legalizing gay marraige. How is it that we have hate crimes for not allowing blacks to vote, denying a woman a job, and yet denying someone of marrige is considered legal? Is denying anyone of any personal freedom not a hate crime commited by our government? And if we must wait until congress passes laws that allow gay marriage, than why is the american public not arrested for not taking action on this issue? My third point is a quote from the Declaration of Independence. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." This quote alone should be a driving force for any american on how to live their life. That we all have the God given right to pursue happiness even if it is not achieved. I say that the american public should stand for that pursuit of happiness within the gay community. To give every human their right to happiness in marriage.
