Every Generation needs a new revolution
The title is a quote by Thomas Jefferson. And it seems to be ringing true to a lot of young people today in this country. A lot of free-thinking individuals who question statements and ideas that are stated by the mass media and our government have thought of the possibility of a major revolution in the United States. This idea is not an old one at all. Through out the United State's history there has always been the threat of an overthrow of government. This usually implied with the idea that the people should keep the local, state and federal governments in check. But it always seem that their are so many more causes of this type of thinking. Many of these causes come from conspiracy theories such as the motivation behind the assignation of President John F. Kennedy. Another such conspiracy is that of the theory of the United States government organized the attacks on the world-trade center in 2001. Some conspiracies are taken to a degree outside of government. Some people may consider pop-culture a product of their governments’ views and opinions that are being pushed at the time. The same idea could be applied to fast food restaurants. Some people may think that McDonalds was made to make the American public unhealthy and unfit to fight a revolution against their government. Fast food and Pop-Culture have one concrete thing in common; both drive the United States economy on a massive level. On top of all these conspiracies there is the economy. The past two years have been some of the worst economic experiences that we have seen in almost a century. A lot of this recession comes from an enormous amount of spending by the federal governments. This has caused an increase in taxes and cuts in federal budgets. And those raised taxes had caused part of the reasoning for the politically motivated group called "Tea Parties." On top of all of this, we have the war that we have been fighting for the past eight years, with no evidence of our original reasoning for going to war. Our refusal of legalizing gay marriage or marijuana is not exactly making the government seem as though it is for the personal freedoms of its citizens either. All of these have seemed to be thrown at the American public in a very overbearing manner. This should be more than enough reason for many people, especially young adults, to seriously consider the idea of a new American revolution.
